Xiao Shan Never Hits Herself Now

Here's more good news for you about our little girl, Xiao Shan, who was generously given two cochlear implants (see Xiao Shan's Story).  On Sunday June 21st, she came to my church which is near the water, where she enjoyed the scenery and the sea breeze which she doesn't have in Xining.  We all prayed for her because she'll be going to Beijing today, July 7th, to begin two years of speech therapy!

I'm always uplifted when I hear young parents reveling in their children. In the same way I thank God for all the Christian Action supporters like you who have never tired of praying and asking after and caring for Xiao Shan and all the orphans and abandoned children Christian Action cares for.

Xiao Shan recently stayed with the Tse family for a week, and Mrs Tse said, "When my daughter, was singing karaoke, Xiao Shan held a microphone and sang out with some voice. It showed she can listen to the music or Mimi's voice and respond to it with her own voice, even though she didn't know what she voiced out. I'm so happy to see her improvement, and so surprised to see what God has done in her."
Perhaps best of all however, is the news that Xiao Shan no longer hits herself on the head with frustration as she used before she could hear!. She is an absolute delight of a child who transforms everyone she meets.

Pamela Chan, a Christian Action child sponsor, was transformed by Xiao Shan.  Pamela was encouraged to sponsor by her friend Fiona Ngao (who sponsors eight of our orphans!). Pamela noted the physically and mentaly challenged children we care for and says she felt "they are the ones who really need my support!." After meeting Xiao Shan Pamela says she is now considering supporting an additional child!

A few weeks ago, Professor Graeme Clarke, the Australian who invented the cochlear implant, was interviewed on television in Australia.  He said that in the early stages of his research into finding a way to help those who couldn't hear, all the international scientists, his own colleagues and even the deaf community were against his work. He was asked on TV how he coped when everyone was against his work.  Prof. Clarke replied, "I prayed. I prayed often for those who were against my work."  Today we can thank God and learn from Fiona and Pamela and Graeme Clarke's persistence in wanting to serve others in need!

Thank YOU for playing your part in this vital work!  Please contact me if you would like information on child sponsorship and lastly please pray for Xiao Shan and all our children!
