Xiao Shan's Story

As I promised last week, here’s the true story of a miracle, plus more!

In January 08, a beautiful little 2-year-old girl was abandoned on the grounds of our Children’s Home in Xining.  A note gave her name as Xiao Shan.  Some rural families can barely feed themeselves so the cost of caring for a handicapped child is too high.  Xiao Shan is deaf and dumb but she is a smart and caring child, always mothering younger children and so thoughtful of the staff.  At 3 years, she is now an ideal age for surgery, so we told Christian Action’s supporters about Xiao Shan, and our longing to see her with a cochlear implant which would offer her a far better chance at living an independent life.

A series of miracles has happened.   Within a month we managed to raise money for the cochlear, pro-bono surgery, hospitalisation, and air-fare for Xiao Shan.  Two years of speech and hearing therapy needed after such surgery will be given to Xiao Shan at the highly commended Cochlear Training and Education Center in Beijing at no cost!  She will learn in Mandarin (PutongHua).   Foster care in Beijing during such rehabilitation is arranged free!

When surgery was scheduled for March 6, we were still concerned about Xiao Shan’s care following surgery in Hong Kong.  Then my friend Sue called and offered to look after Xiao Shan.  Sue is a wonderful and loving person who has looked after a few of our children.

I am fully convinced that this is all part of our Father's good plans, because Sue has an adopted daughter, who is also deaf, and who has also received a cochlear implant! The whole thing is beyond the planning of mortal man!

It is always our belief to give children the best we can, in the same way that our Heavenly Father gives us what is best for us.

The latest news is that Xiao Shan’s operation will take place this Friday!
If you believe in prayer, please pray with us that the operation will be successful so that this beautiful child will hear, and will be able to sing her Father’s praises!

Next week I’ll give you an update on Xiao Shan and share more exciting news with you!
