Christian Action has continuously expanded the scope of our services to cater for the growing needs of our children in Qinghai. One example is the Bridge Programme which we launched in 2014. In this programme, we gave teenagers who have various disabilities, and have not been adopted, special education classes and training to help them transit smoothly to the Social Welfare Institute.
It has really been a blessing to witness the fruits of our hard work. One of our children who has benefited is Fei Fei, a young man with autism who was barely two years old when he came to Xining Children's Home.
Life in Hong Kong is stressful for families. Many parents have told me of their difficulties in caring for their children. That is why, for over three years, we have offered after-school care to families in our area. Forty percent of those who use our services are children who need special education. Our programmes have impacted the children in various ways.
I have always thought that a job should not only be about earning a living, but also about helping to change the lives of those who live without hope, and help them live a life of fulfillment and blessing. That is why CA has been providing training to the unemployed since 1993. Many of those people were then able to enter or re-enter the workforce. To date, we have served well over 290,000 people and we are known as one of the largest professional retraining organisations in Hong Kong!
