10 Years Later: The Amazing Story of Dicky Wong

Ten years ago a fresh faced fifteen-year-old student named Dicky Wong came to Christian Action for help. Dicky lived with his family in a tiny, overcrowded apartment in one of Hong Kong’s poorest neighborhoods, and he desperately wanted to break free from poverty.

To help Dicky we placed him in our Children’s Development Fund (CDF) Programme where he received a personal development plan and all the support and guidance he needed to fulfill the plan. Most importantly, Dicky received his own personal mentor for the entirety of the program!

“From 2015 to 2018,” Dicky explained, “my mentor gave me his unwavering support and we had hundreds of hours of cherished interactions. I experienced the magic of social work’s ability to transform people first hand, and it cast such a spell on me that I decided to commit my life to helping others through social work.”

Four years later, in 2023 Dicky was awarded his Bachelors in Sociology and he is now completing a Masters of Social Work degree! Today he works full-time at our Lo Kwee Seong On Tai Service Centre’s where he runs the CDF and social work programme.

Dicky Wong is also a mentor to CDF children and is making a remarkable impact.
