Flags of Strength: Diverse Personalities, Infinite Power

On a grey, overcast Saturday morning, the streets of the New Territories shimmered with something far brighter than the weather: Hope. Despite the cloudy skies, more than 1,000 volunteers—our service users, students, parents, retirees—gathered with joyful hearts for Christian Action’s Flag Day 2025 to raise funds for our life- changing programmes that serve underprivileged children, ethnic minorities, refugees, asylum seekers, and their families across Hong Kong.

Each volunteer held multiple sheets of Din-Dong-themed flags, adorned with cheerful illustrations of the beloved cartoon cat and his friends. Din-Dong’s motto, “Impossible is possible,” echoes the very heartbeat of Christian Action. We face challenges that often feel insurmountable, but with God’s grace and your support, we find strength to carry on.

I visited our selling points in Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long, and what I witnessed moved me deeply. Volunteers stood under the sweltering, cloudy skies, smiling, reaching out to strangers with warm invitation. One young boy from our Tsuen Wan centre caught my eye—his tiny hands held out a flag, his face lit up with a smile so sincere that passersby couldn’t help but stop and donate.

The funds raised will go directly to our core programmes: food programmes, support services for children and families, services for Ethnic Minorities, Refugees, and Migrant Domestic Workers.

And this year, our campaign reached beyond the streets. Through our Gold Flag initiative, supporters can share their love online, spreading awareness across social media. Each Gold Flag Set—beautifully crafted and deeply meaningful—serves as a keepsake to commemorate Christian Action’s 40th anniversary of serving Hong Kong’s most vulnerable.

By noon, thousands of flags had been sold—but more importantly, countless hearts had been touched. In a city often defined by its pace, Flag Day reminded us to pause, to care, and to lift one another up.
