Something was right

Last week I shared about Meizi Kershaw and her parent's visit to Xining Children's Home. Meizi was the very first child from Xining Children's Home to be adopted. I also gave you an extract from a letter written to me by her mother after their return to the USA. This week, I am sharing with you Meizi's personal reactions to her visit to China and the Xining Children's Home.

A History Maker Returns

As I write this I'm picturing a scene which is deeply embedded in my memory. It was the moment when Crystal and Jeff Kershaw met their daughter Meizi for the first time. When I saw that little family recently, twelve years later, it was like seeing the blessing of God on the work he had initiated way back in 1993 when my heart was broken by a dream about an abandoned baby being put to death.

Sweet Sweet Is Thriving!

When my workload gets very heavy, it’s a great encouragement to take a look at the joyful faces of children who were once orphans in our Children’s Homes and who are now happily settled with their very own families.  It really energises me to keep going with the work we do. What a wonderful reminder of God’s goodness when we see the joy these children bring to others!  The little girl you see here is one of those happy children.  Emma Si Tian was left with us when she was a baby. Nichole and Daniel Baker adopted her three years ago. Here’s part of a recent letter from Nichole.

The Adoption Revolution

I'd like to introduce you to Renee Loux, whom I met last week in Kansas City. She is a mom to eleven kids, nine of whom are adopted. Renee and her husband Derek began the Orphan Justice Center (OJC) in 2008, enabling the adoption and restoration of abused, neglected, and unwanted children. In 2009, Derek was tragically killed in a car accident. Renee, now the President of OJC and supported by a strong team, continues the vision of rescuing, adopting and restoring orphans.

Saving "Treasure"!

Guo Tong Yi was found in June 2007 when she was less than one year old. Police couldn’t find her parents so she was sent to our Xining Children’s Home.  We found that she had hydrocephalus, which can cause the heads of babies to swell to accommodate excess cerebral spinal fluid.  We took her to Beijing for surgery and Teresa, a wonderful friend of Christian Action, paid for a shunt to be placed in Tong Yi’s head. She then cared for this little infant for a few months after surgery. When Tong Yi recovered, we arranged for her to be cared for by foster parents in Xining for two years.
