John’s Harrowing Story

Please, please read and share - John (alias), fled persecution in his home country thirteen years ago. He arrived in Hong Kong stateless and hoping and praying that a western country would give him a chance to have a new life.

Hong Kong has more than 15,000 foreigners who are seeking asylum and survival in this expensive city is not easy. Life as a refugee has been a daily struggle for John, his wife and four young children, all of who do not have any formal, migrant status. "I signed up as soon as I saw the announcement. What impressed me was the final showdown, Ne Zha's perseverance, and the sacrifices he made to save his parents. Thank you Christian Action."

- Lin Lin, from our programme

Fun fact: when I was a young girl, movie tickets were given out during Children’s Day to kids of the public housing where I was brought up. It was the highlight of my year! To this day I can still remember watching Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music at the Coliseum theatre in Kuala Lumpur!

This Gloriously Unique Place and Season

Never, in the course of a year, is it okay to go all out in publicly wishing blessings to others as much as it is right now. With meals, gift-giving and carol services we celebrated Christmas and now, with Chinese New Year just around the corner, this season of spreading joy and love continues!

As a Malaysian living here, I cherish this unique blend of Western and Chinese festive traditions that are only found in Hong Kong. I love coming in to the office and seeing the vibrant red hues, the orange trees, and the fresh flowers. Fai Chun, red pieces of paper with handwritten four-character sayings that convey blessings and prosperity, decorate the entrances, hallways, and offices. It’s gorgeous!
