Green Connect Making Old Things Beautiful

I love witnessing transformation in people, nature and art. Creativity inspires me, whether it’s the Lord changing an orphan’s life through adoption or using old things for new purposes. Christian Action’s Green Connect initiative is a reflection of my heart for protecting our environment and creating employment opportunities for those in need.

On 26 August, Green Connect conducted an upcycling workshop for a partnering company to promote positivity among their staff who had recently returned to the office after months of working from home due to the pandemic. The company’s organiser wanted to welcome back the employees and build up team morale with the upcycling workshop.

Our Green Connect staff taught the team how to make craft paper out of shredded paper from the office. The activity was much harder than they expected, but we reassured them that they will fail many times before they succeed. The process requires a patient, calm and focused disposition and the ability to accept of flaws which were unfamiliar to the corporate workers. However, they learned the importance of how one’s emotional state affects the result of one’s work and art.

We encouraged the team to look at their beautiful craft paper whenever they feel stressed in the future so that they will remember the peace and positivity from the activity. Hopefully, they can transfer the workshop’s lesson to their own work habits and attitudes.

Overall, the company loved the upcycling team building event and are eager to participate in future workshops to help CA service users. I am heartened by their enthusiasm to serve the less fortunate and I hope that more companies can partner with us and join our efforts.

Seeing the lovely craft paper made from unwanted shredded paper reminds me of this verse: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” -Ecclesiastes 3:11

Praise God that He is doing His creative work in us through Green Connect!
