It's lawfully hers!

Stripped of her rights, Siti needs help getting recourse to justice

Tomorrow is International Labour Day. The word 'international' reminds me that there are millions of people globally whose attempts to earn a living are slowly chipping away at their dignity. Abusive and unscrupulous employers deprive them of their rights as workers, and sometimes even as human beings. Basic respect for human dignity is absent. I can't do much about the global problem, but Christian Action is chipping away at the existence of these problems in Hong Kong.

Building A Better Hong Kong

Even though I am Chinese, the Malaysian education system did not encourage learning to read and write the language when I was growing up. Now the demands of running an agency like Christian Action have left me very little time for language study, so I have a deep level of respect for those who really strive to learn the language. Maswa is one of those people.

The Gift of Education

As soon as he was born, we wanted to make sure our son, Danial, had access to the best education possible. Most parents are like that: we give priority to our children's health, welfare and education because they are our whole world, our everything. Mariam*, a single mother from the Middle East who is seeking refuge in Hong Kong, is no different, yet the avenues open to her to ensure the best start in life for her child are limited and often fraught with complications.

Love wasn't enough

Suonan is seventeen. He's tall and good looking, and his future looks bright. When he graduates from Qinghai Communication Technical College, his qualifications will go a long way towards securing a job, and then gaining respect in his community. He is excited to be living his dream, because he never expected it to come true for him.

To Walk or Not to Walk

I admit that I fail dismally when I try to imagine what it would be like not to go for a walk, or to have a disability which prevents me from being my normal mobile self.

Even when I participated in Christian Action's first three legged walkathon last year, I couldn't really imagine a permanent disability, because I always knew I would soon take that strap off my leg and be wonderfully and independently mobile again.
