One People, One City

It's a lonely life if you're a woman living in a foreign country, unable to work, and without extended family members. That's the plight of many South Asian stay-at-home women in Hong Kong who follow the traditions of their mothers and grandmothers. These women are often housebound, lonely, bored and depressed.

Where there's a need in our community, we try to find a solution. The result of Christian Action's efforts to find a solution is proving to be a wonderful success.

October 7th is Kick-Off Day!

It started small, but last year's Charity Football Tournament is now gearing up for our upcoming bigger, better tournament, once again aimed at raising funds for refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong.  This year our team proudly bears the name United Colours of Christian Action, or team UCCA.

When fate steps in

I deeply appreciate the contribution of dedicated staff and volunteers who constitute the engine room of Christian Action. Without their dedicated service, many hundreds of helpless people would not be cared for. Although our workers are motivated by compassion, few have walked the same road as our clients. Nina is one of the few who have. She has faced a very similar situation to the domestic migrant workers she is now serving.

Learning to be thankful

Every year, Christian Action encourages friends to visit Xining Children's Home, play with the children, and love them. These visits also offer their 'mamas' (their hardworking carers) some respite from the constant demands of caring for severely disabled children. The kind words, smiles, and sometimes hugs, say to a disabled child, "You're lovable!" or to a stressed out mama, "Thank you – you're doing a great job!" These are small gestures but they make a big difference in Xining. But the difference made in the lives of the visitors is also a big blessing. St. Andrew's Church Youth Group members were so touched by their summer visit that I decided to hand over my 'pen' so you could hear from some of them yourself.
