Our Centre for Refugees Pulls Off Another Great Event

Just last week, on June 25th, we held an event at PMQ in Central to showcase the bravery, resilience, culture, and hope of refugees. Our Centre for Refugees (CFR) staff, volunteers, refugees and asylum seekers performed and held henna, tinikling (bamboo dancing), African Djembe demonstrations and handicraft activities. Our goal was to engender a greater acceptance of Hong Kong’s refugee community and their culture.

Our Biggest, Most Exciting Store Just Opened!

I love shopping. But that’s not so surprising, because virtually everyone here does - especially when there’s a sale! 😊

‘Shopping’ has a different meaning to many of Hong Kong’s socially disadvantaged communities. This includes: the elderly; disabled; new arrivals; single parents; ethnic minorities; low-income; the unemployed and others. For them, shopping is a never ending daily grind of trying to provide for their loved ones.

Newsflash! We Won More Awards!

We have just been recognized by Hong Kong’s Education Department as the top training institute in all of Hong Kong for helping job-seekers re-enter the workforce!

This commendation is especially satisfying because the bar is so high. The Education Department has a stringent Qualifications Framework (QF) with seven different levels of academic, professional, and continuing education credentials. In our case this meant that every level of each of our classes in each of our service areas, was put through a demanding quality control screening and we came through with flying colors!

Empowering Ethnic Minority Children Together!

Two months ago the children in our Ethnic Minorities Programme received a very special treat courtesy of 20 volunteers from the Education Bureau. The volunteers treated the children to free STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) classes, and it was huge hit.

I Was Looking Forward To This Day for 9 Years!

Nine years ago Christian Action was at risk of being shut down. Our Headquarters and base of operations for almost 30 years, The New Horizons Building at Kai Tak, was suddenly slated for demolition and we were powerless to stop this action.

Everything that we had laboured for and spent decades developing, from world-class training courses and facilities, including a well-trained staff, to After-School Programmes - was in jeopardy. Many of you partnered with us in faithful and fervent prayer, but the outcome looked very bleak.
