For over seven years, Ada has devoted herself to the neighbours at our Sheung Shui centre. She has not only held educational workshops, she has also organized community activities such as factory visits, house calls, and charity events. All those things have helped her clients to assimilate into the neighbourhood.

To me, each of the service users is precious in God’s sight, and deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. We have been providing services to help Migrant Domestic Workers (MDW) understand their basic rights, entitlements, and labour protection. While they stay with us at our shelters, they not only receive paralegal advice, but also psychological counseling in order to renew their hope and trust in relationships.

Christian Action was born because of the Vietnamese refugees who arrived in Hong Kong in the 70s and 80s. There were tent camps at Kai Tak. That was when my career, and CA began. Since then I have always had a soft spot for refugees and displaced people. To mark World Refugee Day this year, we held a series of events aimed at educating the public about the plight of those who have been displaced.

On July 23, Rhea Mogul highlighted the cookbook by teenager, Chloe Yau, in the SCMP’s Young Post News. The book is a fundraiser for our work with refugees and asylum seekers.
Chloe is 15 years-old, and has produced the first cookbook that not only includes recipes, but also refugee stories. She is a student at United World College, Costa Rica.

Here’s some news which doesn’t make the headlines! Our Christian Action colleagues are among the most generous people I know. Over 60 staff have donated to support our $10,000 Reasons campaign!
Ada is a senior manager of our China team. She manages services and activities for our children in Qinghai. She regularly witnesses the gaps in our services and our funding. When she heard about the $10,000 Reasons campaign, she and her husband both donated the full amount of the government handout. She said, “It wasn’t a hard decision! Hong Kong fares better than China on the socioeconomic level.”
