Dinner with Diplomats

A sense of humor can help a Master of Ceremonies get the audience in the right mood for a pleasant event!

Few weeks ago, I had the honour of serving as an MC at a dinner reception organized by the External Affairs Committee of the HKCPPCC (Provincial) Members Association. It was an informal dinner to introduce or update our guests about the Association. It was also an opportunity to share our views and common interests.

My role as an MC was multifaceted. While I ensured that all the participants felt welcome and the needs of our distinguished guests were well taken care of, it was also an opportunity to introduce a little humor into the event. Once people started to laugh, I sensed that the atmosphere was right for a pleasant evening, and our guests willingly engaged with what was happening on stage.

I have served in the CPPCC of Qinghai Province since 1998, first as a member and then a standing committee member from 2013. In 2009, I joined the HKCPPCC (Provincial) Members Association and I've served on various committees, including social affairs, women, and now external affairs. It was fun being the MC with Cliff Sun, a friend for over 20 years and the Zhejiang member of the Association.

The dinner welcomed distinguished representatives from more than 20 countries, as well as other notable guests such as Deputy Ministers of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR, Director General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HK Government, and senior officials of the Shenzhen Government.

The guests were given information about the Association's accomplishments and the latest developments in China, including its well-known 'One Belt One Road' initiative and the Guangdong Hong Kong Macau Big Bay Area project.

I hope that my personal friends everywhere will help me link up with more potential donors and/or partners to support our work in Hong Kong and China, so that we may continue helping and blessing disadvantaged people.
