News Flash - Our Mong Kok Students Receive University Scholarships!

“I live in a subdivided apartment with my mother and younger sister. During the COVID outbreak my father was in China and could not send us any living allowance. My mother thought it was not right to seek welfare as long as she could work. Instead, she took on a cleaning job to support the family. At the height of the pandemic, my sister was sent home from the hostel for the severely mentally handicapped. My mother had no choice but to quit her job to take care of her. Thanks to CA, we received emergency relief and food packs. We are also thankful for the social worker’s visits. I wanted to study hard, gain good results, and be admitted to one of the top 3 universities in Hong Kong. I was so thrilled about my DSE exam result. Later, the Mong Kok Center offered me a job as a tutor in the After-School child-care programme, I think this is a wonderful chance to repay the kindness that I received, so now it is my turn to bless others.”

On the 17th of August, 2022 I shared a story entitled News Flash - Our Mong Kok Centre students Ace the DSE! Today I have a fantastic follow-up announcement!

The original blog post told the story of how six of our hard-working high school students from extremely humble backgrounds overcame seemingly insurmountable odds and aced their 2022 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examinations (DSE). They were all accepted into some of Hong Kong’s most prestigious universities and they credit our Mong Kok Centre and tutors for playing a key role in their success.

The news that I am so happy to announce is that in recognition of the student’s accomplishments, and the financial strains that their university studies will place on their families, we have created the Christian Action Scholarship for Excellence (CASE). The students will receive cash grants to be used at their discretion! If you would like to donate to CASE and support our students please click here. Thank you!
