Together We Can Build a Better Tomorrow
In this second year of post-COVID economic recovery and growth, I am glad to see life in Hong Kong gradually getting back to pre-pandemic normalcy, especially for those in the middle and higher income groups. But this recovery is not the same for low-salary families, who are unable to take advantage of the economic rebound, instead they find themselves in a new financial crisis.
I always ask God to bless our efforts to help our service users. I was overjoyed then to find that my prayers were answered, when we were given the opportunity to launch the ‘Building Tomorrow Together’ campaign for the community, particularly those underprivileged individuals living in Sham Shui Po. The first event took place on 25th February 2024, at Shek Kip Mei Community Hall where goody bags and food gift packs were provided for 300 families in Sham Shui Po, to help them ride-out the numerous economic challenges.
As I write, a Home Improvement programme is taking place, which provides a one-off subsidy designed to cover living environment improvements for those in subdivided apartments or cubical rooms. Eligible applicants can apply for a fan, rice-cooker, reading-lamp, mattress, blankets, or any household items that they may need to make their living environment more tolerable.
Another part of the campaign is a Positive Education Workshop for Parents. Following the vision of the HKSAR, which seeks to help our young people thrive and believe that this action should begin at home, the workshop helps parents to learn how to effectively educate and communicate with their children, in order to foster a better parent-child relationship. CA also offers counselling to parents when needed, to help them overcome their daily stress to their body or to their mind.
Please continue to pray for CA that God will use us as a light in the city, to serve those who are disadvantaged, marginalized, displaced or abandoned.
Special thanks to China CITIC Bank International for sponsoring the "Building Tomorrow Together" campaign and to the Office of Sham Shui Po Council Member Chan Lung Kit for supporting the campaign.
