Can a Child be helped to Break Free from Inter-Generational Poverty?

Fourteen years ago, we started a pilot project at Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor. The Child Development Fund (CDF), as it is now known, attempted to help children from Hong Kong’s poorest families break free from poverty. We recently celebrated the graduation of yet another group of CDF students - so one could say this experiment is a huge success!

When Life Gives You Lemons - Make Lemonade!

It’s my first time meeting ethnic minorities who live in Hong Kong. My past tutoring experience has always been with helping locals. My students, Qais and Simki, were very enthusiastic to learn. The older brother always helped his sister keep up with the pace. With his help my job was made much easier. I enjoyed meeting them and learning more about their cultural background.

Tucked away at the end of Acts 9 is the story of a disciple named Tabitha. The Bible says she “was always doing good and helping the poor”. Her story teaches us that God can use what may seem insignificant to us, to influence those we have been called to serve.

The Last Shall Not Be Last

Few people in Hong Kong have suffered as much indignity and pain during this 5th wave of COVID as our asylum seekers and refugees. Already relegated to the margins of society, they were initially left in the terrifying position of being excluded from the Government’s plan to provide free vaccinations for Hong Kong’s residents! They were the last to be served in the vaccination campaign.
