For the very first time in our history Hong Kong’s Social Workers Association (HKSWA) now has a chapter specifically taking care of the ethnic minority community. It has been convened by none other than Christian Action’s Manager and registered Social Worker at the Centre for Refugees, Jeffrey Andrews!

During the fifth wave of this COVID outbreak, Christian Action distributed rapid test kits, Chinese medicine, paracetamol and other useful preventive products to all staff members to keep at home. My family was always so thankful for them because the shops usually sell out of these items as soon as they come into stock.

Fourteen years ago, we started a pilot project at Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor. The Child Development Fund (CDF), as it is now known, attempted to help children from Hong Kong’s poorest families break free from poverty. We recently celebrated the graduation of yet another group of CDF students - so one could say this experiment is a huge success!

It’s my first time meeting ethnic minorities who live in Hong Kong. My past tutoring experience has always been with helping locals. My students, Qais and Simki, were very enthusiastic to learn. The older brother always helped his sister keep up with the pace. With his help my job was made much easier. I enjoyed meeting them and learning more about their cultural background. - Kay, a summer program mentor
