Nothing but Rice

A refugee mother recently came to our Centre for Refugees to collect her food package. After showing her appreciation with her customary bow, she told our staff “My kids and I have eaten only rice for several days because we had no other food.” Tears welled up in her eyes. Can you imagine meeting someone like that, and hearing what she said, “Nothing but rice.”? In the midst of the wealth in Hong Kong, that was a very sad thing for our staff to hear.

The greatest love of all

This year’s celebration of Mother’s Day will be very different because most of us must still practice social distancing and wear masks in public. Although the control of the pandemic remains stable in Hong Kong, gathering in crowds is not advisable.

So we will need to find a different way to celebrate Mother’s Day, instead of the usual dinner or movie with Mum.

Faith as small as a Mustard Seed

In the blink of an eye, an entire year has passed since I wrote my April 11, 2019 blog post ‘Off to New Horizons’, and we relocated our headquarters to Choi Wan!
