Caleb's farewell

Nine years ago a newborn baby in urgent need of surgery for multiple congenital birth defects came to us. Thanks to your generosity, he's had surgery several times. He has faced many challenges including learning to walk, but little Muyang has overcome them all with great courage, and humor!

Last Friday we held a farewell party for him because he was about to go to a new home with his new American family. They have given him a new name: Caleb, after strong and brave Caleb in the Bible.  His forever parents were thrilled to receive an additional gift from us.

His parents, Russell and Angie, were given a full history of Caleb MuYang’s short life. They have adopted four children from other orphanages in China, but never before have they been given their child’s history. We keep a record of every child in our care’s growth to present to new parents, because we know how much they treasure it. Here's part of what Caleb's parents have written to us:

We have been humbly blessed to have in our family children that the world has seen as "defective", but who have been preserved by God’s grace to eventually bring joy to our family.

I know that God used specific people in each of their lives to teach them, to love them, to care for them until we came for them, but we have never been able to actually meet and thank those who have been the hands and feet of Christ in their lives until MuYang.

What a humble privilege it is to be able to actually be able to give our heart-felt thanks to you for your tremendous love and support for our new son.

As they shared their hearts with us, there was hardly a dry eye in the room. I wish all Christian Action’s supporters could have been there! Caleb Muyang was his usual outgoing and upbeat self, although he also cried a little when we all sang a goodbye song to him. We are all happy for him, but it was sad to say goodbye.

May many more orphans and abandoned children at Xining Children's Home experience the joy of family today!
