Who Helps Them?

Justin Murgai interviewed by Al Jazeera English Channel

The refugee situation is suddenly global News. Fifty million people have been displaced due to several ongoing conflicts. Thousands have arrived in Hong Kong just this year.

Many have left jobs and livelihoods, and have lost families and loved ones. Who is helping these people here in Hong Kong - one of the most affluent cities in the world?

Christian Action operates the first and only drop-in centre for refugees in Hong Kong. We serve 600 families and individuals each month. They include vulnerable single mothers, children, and victims of war, persecution and trauma.

Two weeks ago, the Manager of our Centre for Refugees, Justin Murgai, was interviewed for an Al Jazeera English news story which featured one of our clients and highlighted our services at the centre. Please take the time to view the news clip here

I believe that every refugee should be treated with the same respect and dignity as we would give Jesus Christ, who was once a refugee. Our centre's services not only provide basic humanitarian needs (3 meals a day, clothing and medical referrals), but also offer child education support, language and vocation training for adults, and counseling and therapy for many who have faced unthinkable acts of violence.

Please help us to raise awareness and help to inspire people to support these forgotten ones. You can support a refugee and help give them access to shelter, food and other basic needs for as little as HK$200 per month. You can also help in a very practical way by donating to our centre’s current Winter Clothes or Diaper Drives. For more information, check out the "Centre for Refugees" Facebook page or contact 852-2723 6626 for more information.

God Bless you!
