Access to Success

Priya dreams of becoming a doctor

War and persecution has driven many families out of their home lands and forced them to take refuge in Hong Kong. When they continue to see obstacles ahead of them, many of those parents lose hope of a decent future for their children. With a name like Christian Action, we can do no less than act to help fulfill the potential of these refugees.

Aysha, her husband, and their children came to Hong Kong eight years ago. Like every other Hong Kong child, their eldest daughter, 11-year-old Priya, had to perform to high academic standards if she wanted to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. She is now 16 years old.

To improve her chances of being accepted at university, Priya would have to be accepted into a good secondary school. Her grades were the key to that acceptance. Despite her excellent academic performance, she was not selected to attend the school she had chosen. This was no deterrent for her mother!  Aysha went off and approached a girl’s school which she believed would help Priya achieve the academic results which would be essential for her success. The school accepted Priya without hesitation.

Now, with three years to go, Aysha wonders where her daughter will be attending university.  All education support ends once students graduate from high school. Aysha herself had to give up her dream of being a lawyer because her family was too poor to pay for a tertiary education, so she is determined that all her children will be educated.

Their church generously assists with school fees, and because Christian Action also believes that education will give Priya access to success, we help to pay for all the other expenses associated with sending a child to school.

Your support helps us nurture Priya’s natural talent, and gives her the opportunity to achieve her dream of becoming a medical doctor.  Thank you for playing your part in the lives of gifted young people like Priya.
