A Cheerful Giver

Mark’s letter and laisee
donation

As a child, I couldn't wait until Chinese New Year. In the days leading up to the celebrations two words filled my mind: red packets (laisee)! Like children waiting for Christmas morning in other countries, my life was consumed with the excitement of what I would receive, and what I would buy when I opened my laisee packets - each one stuffed with money!

Imagine my emotions this year, when I was told about the heart attitude of Mark, one of our very disabled children in Qinghai.

After Chinese New Year, Agnes, who is Mark's mentor in Qinghai, sent me the crumpled sheet of paper she'd been given, which was wrapped around a small bundle of cash. Agnes unfolded the paper and found that it contained all the laisee money given to Xiao Jin Niu (Mark) for Chinese New Year. He had written a letter on the sheet of paper:

Mom, I would like to ask you to help me to donate my laisee (red packet money) to CA. I think if I just donated one year, there wouldn't be a significant meaning. I want to donate to help other children fulfill my desire to attend university. Although I do not have several million dollars, nor even the money to buy a pair of socks, I have learned from you to be grateful in life. Thank you, Mom. I love you. - Mark

A truly cheerful giver!

Mark had donated all his laisee money - RMB100 (US$15). This is the second year in a row that he has donated his entire laisee money so that Christian Action could help other children who are abandoned and disabled.

I feel helpless when I face such children or teenagers who haven't been adopted because of their disabilities. I know in my heart that Mark is a very special person and I prayed to God to help us find a way of fulfilling his potential. I believe His answer is in scripture: 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Please continue to support the Bridging Programme, which helps equip Mark and his friends with vocational skills.
