The Life-changing Power of Scholarships

Scholarships change lives. They give educational opportunities that would otherwise be impossible. At Christian Action, we believe that a family’s poverty cycle can be broken with a quality education. For this reason, we provide high school students from our service centres, with tertiary education opportunities.

Three weeks ago I attended the Christian Action Scholarship for Excellence (CASE) Award Presentation at our Headquarters and heard the story of one of our amazing students.

In his five best DSE subject performances, he scored an amazing 34 points out of 35 and was immediately accepted by the University of Hong Kong. Unfortunately, he fell ill the night of the awards and couldn’t attend the CASE ceremony. His father however, told us that he jumped up-and-down with excitement when he learned that he was a successful scholarship recipient. He was overcome with gratitude, that he can now focus on his studies.

For this third round of CASE Award presentations, we received applications from a total of 25 disadvantaged students, all with excellent DSE results. The high-point of the afternoon was when the students got to spend time together with our donors and guests, to talk about their ambitions and glean advice from the visitors.

At the end of the event, a student from the Centre for Refugees explained that this scholarship has made huge difference in his life, as he can now purchase a higher-quality laptop, which will allow him to complete projects that were previously unachievable.

The students are now motivated to take advantage of all the resources at their disposal and to explore other academic prospects, as a result of receiving their grants.

To continue this worthwhile programme, we look to you to give this good cause your best support. Please click here to donate to the CASE scholarship programme. Thank you!
