The Eternal Impact of Mentorship

Morris had a problem. Like so many of his school mates he preferred playing games on his phone to studying.

He also had a short fuse, so much so, that on one occasion he hurled his phone to the ground, angry after losing playing his mobile game.

But then one of our staff invited him to join our Child Development Fund (CDF) project. He thought it was a good opportunity to try something new, so he agreed and met his mentor, Dicky from Tin Shui Wai Peace Evangelical Centre.

Walk With Love

“When I was ten years old my family and I moved from the Mainland to Hong Kong. I didn’t understand traditional Chinese characters, my English was poor, and suddenly everything was a challenge. Not surprisingly, my self-confidence plummeted.

My salvation was Christian Action’s After-School Child Care Class at their Mong Kok Service Centre. The tutors helped me with my homework and had me practice and strengthen my weakest areas. Five years later I am in Primary 6, and am proud to announce that I achieved an "A" in all subjects. This September I will start my secondary eduction at one of Yau Tsim Mong District’s best schools!!”

Caring For and Serving the Needy

“Before getting help from Christian Action, I felt like I was constantly fighting a losing battle to make ends meet. My husband is a casual worker in the construction industry and his monthly income dropped to HK$10,000 due to the pandemic. We live in a 100 square foot subdivided unit, because that’s all we can afford. To save money, I would go to the wet market just before closing time to look for bargains and cheaper vegetables and take our two kids to the park to cool off, rather than turn on the air-conditioner at home.

It was such a relief when my relative introduced me to CA’s Mong Kok Service Centre. Now we receive a supply of essentials, including rice, milk, eggs and more each month. The balanced diet helps my children to grow up healthily and the money saved, is used to buy daily necessities. Without CA’s support, I don't think I could provide for my family and care for the elderly. Thank you so much.”
Ms. Lam (pseudonym name) shared her story.

MTR Helps Our Kids To Dream

The question ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ isn’t supposed to be a difficult one to answer. But for the roughly thirty underprivileged children in our Child Development Fund Programme, it is hard for them to imagine themselves doing anything other than what they see their parents doing now. On April 1st 2023 however, the MTR gave our kids a fabulous opportunity to catch a new vision for their lives!

Less Talk, More (Christian) Action!

In my thirty-plus years of serving underprivileged communities, the injustices that migrant domestic helpers have had to suffer has grieved me constantly. When the pandemic struck it worsened considerably. Our city was terrified and felt helpless - which exaggerated unacceptable behavior, like the forced eviction of domestic helpers; resulting in some of them being left outside to fend for themselves in public parks; nothing could be more reprehensible!

On March 5th 2023 we collaborated with St. Andrew's Church, Harvest Mission Community Church (HMCC) and International Christian School (ICS) to organize a day of activities for domestic workers, and it was a resounding success!
