A Mid-Autumn Success

‘What good is there in your saying to them, “God bless you! Keep warm and eat well!”—if you don't give them the necessities of life? So it is with faith: if it is alone and includes no actions, then it is dead.’

- James 2:16-17

Scripture calls on all of us to love our neighbor, and that means taking action. Since moving our Headquarters to Choi Wan Christian Action has had the honor of serving many of our neighbors - and it is my pleasure to tell you about one such event that we recently held for our elderly neighbors!

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture; its popularity is on par with that of the Chinese New Year. This year the Festival is on September 29, and is followed closely by National Day, on October 1. To make this a joyous and memorable occasion for our elderly neighbors we invited 160 senior citizens from Choi Wan and Wong Tai Sin to join a "family party" at our Headquarters.

All of the children are from low-income families and would likely never have been able to visit the Museum were it not for TAL’s kindness!

Our Ethnic Minority Children Want Kung Fu Classes!

"Kung Fu is stimulating and difficult at the same time. Each movement improves my physical strength and greatly motivates me to exercise. I really love it!"

- Laibah, age 16

Summer holidays mean different things to different people, but when we asked the children in our ethnic minority program what they would most like to do over the holidays, we were surprised to learn that they wanted to take Chinese Kung Fu lessons!

Aili’s Story

Aili was 5 years old when an agricultural machine severely fractured his right palm. Instantly, he lost all feelings in his palm, with two of the fingers in a twisted position. At the Xinjiang provincial hospital, the parents were horrified to learn that the hospital lacked the right equipment to perform a phalanx fracture procedure. Treatment elsewhere was beyond reach for this desperate family.

The good news in Aili’s story is that thanks to supporters like you, who had already been donating to Christian Action’s China Programme, and thanks to a fundraiser for Aili, we were able to fly him to Shanghai, where his fingers were successfully re-aligned!

Kerry’s Clubhouses Sponsor Hot-Meals for The Needy!

“We put our skills into helping the community, which not only demonstrates teamwork but also instils in me a value for the spirit of love and cooperation that gives life optimism and hope. Volunteering can best be understood when I meet the recipients personally, sharing small conversations, especially when I hand a lunch box to them. Their eyes shine with gratitude and they utter a sincere "thank you", it really melts my heart.”
- Mr. Lee Ying Lam, Head Chef, Dragons Range Club House.

Food is a gift. We thank God for it at the start of every meal, we sustain ourselves with it and we celebrate life’s major milestones with it.

In our monthly give-away of basic food packs to 560 families and the distribution of 96 cook-chill meal boxes per day at the Mong Kok Food Station, recently my staff informed me about pockets of Mong Kong residents who are so poor that they frequently can’t provide their family with a hot meal. This was not acceptable and I began praying and wondering if there were any upstanding, civic-minded corporations who could help.
